The 65K 4 65 Roses Walkathon is named after the ultra-marathon distance of 65 kilometres and uses the name 65 Roses - which is the nickname for cystic fibrosis. But don't let the 65km course scare you off – there are several distance categories to choose from and you can choose to tackle your distance in one go or over the span of 9 days from 19 February to 27 February.

Unfortunately due to the current COVID-19 circumstances we have to pivot to a virtual event. Anyone who has purchased tickets for the in-person event will automatically be converted to a virtual ticket.

Runners are welcome!

Start Times

These are the start times that were planned for the event at The Bay Run, and we recommend sticking to them if you are attempting to tackle your 65km, 42km, or 35km virtual walks in one day. If you start at the recommended times you should have time to take some breaks and still finish your walk before 5pm.

For the shorter distances, you can start later and still finish in daylight, but we recommend you start early to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Choose your Distance

65Km - Ultra Marathon

Test your stamina, endurance and mental strength by entering the 65km Ultra Marathon event. You can participate in the distance solo, or you can complete the Ultra Marathon distance as a team.

We start the 65km walk at 2am on Saturday 26 February (start in the dark so you can finish in the daylight.) It takes approximately 12 - 13 hours for an experienced walker to walk 65 kms. We recommend that virtual walkers attempting this in one day start at the same time.

Alternatively, virtual walkers can choose to walk a little each day from Saturday 19 February to Sunday 27 February to reach your 65km total. You can accomplish this by walking on average 7.22kms/day for the 9 day period.

And if you want a bit of both? You can walk during the week and then show up to The Bay Run on event day to do your final few kilometres alongside fellow supporters.

42Km - Marathon | 35Km - Endurance
21Km – Challenger | 7km -  Casual

Get together with work colleagues, friends, family or as an individual to walk your choice of 42km, 35km or 21km, or 7km distances.

See the timetable above for start times. If you are a virtual walker that plans on doing your 42km or 35km walks in one day, we recommend adhering to these start times as well. You can also opt to spread these distances out from Saturday 19 February to Sunday 27 February.

The Route

The Bay Run
The Bay Run goes around Iron Cove and is a 7 kilometre-long walking and cycling loop. It is a very scenic route that is almost entirely on the water and passes through the suburbs of Lilyfield, Haberfield, Five Dock, Drummoyne, and Rozelle. It is predominately flat. CFCC will set up two water stations around the track.

"Base camp" will be set up at Leichhardt Park Oval 3, with food, water, first aid, and entertainment available on the day.

Virtual Walkers
One of the perks of walking virtually is that you can do it just about anywhere -we strongly encourage you to choose a route you are familiar with for your long distance walk, and even better if it goes in a loop. This way you have a "base camp" to return to for supplies and to touch base with your support team or a check in buddy.

Please make sure you have informed others of your intended route. Contact a support team or check in buddy regularly for support, supplies and safety.
